With its central location in the heart of Texas, Lake Whitney is referred to as "The Getaway Capital of Texas." Lake Whitney

Lake Whitney is located on the Brazos River.   Brazos de Dios means "in the arms of God." Lake Whitney is a large lake with 225 miles of shoreline and 37 square miles of coverage.  Lake Whitney is 45 river miles long and is up to four miles wide at the widest point. 

Lake Whitney Lake Whitney's clear, blue water and its varied shoreline, from nice sandy beaches to steep bluffs, make it a popular recreation lake.

Lake Whitney is located about 30 miles north of Waco and 55 miles southwest of Fort Worth in central Texas.  The lake is close enough for people from Dallas/Ft. Worth and Austin to enjoy.

Lake Whitney has over two million visitors yearly who take advantage of the fishing, boating, water skiing, scuba diving, camping, wildlife, sight-seeing, birdwatching and other amenities.

Lake Whitney is popular with scuba divers.  Favorite diving spots are at Lofer's Bend Park, Soldiers Bluff Park, Cliffs on Little Rocky Creek and King Creek around the small rock island called King Creek Rock.

Texas Parks and Wildlife says that fishing in Lake Whitney is excellent for Striped Bass, White Bass, Smallmouth Bass and Catfish. Fishing is good in Lake Whitney for Largemouth Bass, Crappie and Sunfish.

It has 10 Corps of Engineer parks, a state park, and three other parks available for picknicking, camping and day use.

Bird Watching...
Bird watching is another great hobby in the Lake Whitney area. Since Lake Whitney is in the North American Flyway, more than 300 species of birds can be seen thoughout the year.  Swallows have made the holes and cracks on the unique rock formations along the lake their home and hundreds of the birds can be seen at one time.  Be on the look out for the American bald eagle.  Every year, the bald eagle increases in number around Lake Whitney.

Located on the Hill College campus, the museum commemorates the experiences of Texans during war times.

Hill County Courthouse - Hillsboro
Constructed in 1890, the courthouse has two story high Corenthian columns. There is also a 70 foot high clock tower.

Located in Whitney on the WB Ranch, the track is open for special events several times a year.
